Maureen G. Phipps Named New ACOG CEO

As an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Tara Neubert Kumaraswami sees patients in the clinic and serves as director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program. Supplementing this role, Tara Neubert Kumaraswami holds a membership with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

Established in 1951 to mobilize members and advocate for the improvement of women's health, ACOG is steered by an executive board in addition to more than 30 committees that contribute to its activities. Its executive board receives operational support from its CEO and other executive staff members. On September 9, ACOG named Maureen G. Phipps, MD, as its new CEO.

A longtime ACOG Fellow, Dr. Phipps will oversee ACOG programs and over 250 staff members in her new role. She intends on continuing to work toward improving the lives of all women via providing ACOG members with the appropriate tools and training to effectively communicate about health with their patients and deliver efficient and effective care. Dr. Phipps previously served as department chair at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and has served as Care New England Health System's executive chief of obstetrics and gynecology.
